Toastmasters Club

Welcome

Welcome to the TCU Toastmasters web site. We are a Toastmasters club, open to the general public. We meet at Texas Christian University, and our members include TCU staff, faculty and students, as well as people from the surrounding community. You do not have to be affiliated with TCU to join, but if you are not a part of TCU, then you will need a TCU affiliated member to sponsor you. New members are voted in once a month. Visitors are welcome. Here, at our web site, you'll find information on the club, where and when we meet, our activities and our achievements.

The Program

A note on Toastmasters. If you are interested in joining Toastmasters, you may want to know a little about how the program works. When you join, you receive a workbook titled Competent Communicator. This book contains ten chapters, each of which provides valuable information on a specific aspect of public speaking. Each chapter also requires you to prepare and deliver a speech that is usually from five to seven minutes in length; the speech topic is up to you. You work at your own pace. When you complete all ten assignments, and you send in your paperwork to Toastmasters International, you receive your CC or Competent Communicator award. This includes a certificate and an optional letter to your employer concerning your achievement. After this, higher levels may be achieved within Toastmasters, including AC (Advanced Communicator) Bronze, AC Silver, AC Gold.  The Leadership Track uses a Leadership workbook wherein you are given specific lessons in leadership that can be learned through filling one of the regular weekly club roles.  When you complete this workbook you send in the paperwork as before to recieve your Competent Leader award.  This too includes a certificate and an optional letter to your employer concerning your achievement. There are higher levels of leadership you may attain such as Advanced Leader Bronze and Advanced Leader Silver.   When you achieve Advanced Leader Silver and Advanced Communicator Gold, you recieve your DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster) which is the highest award offered by Toastmasters.

TCU Toastmasters

A note on TCU Toastmasters meetings. TCU Toastmasters is designated Club #5555 in Area 33, Division C, District 25. TCU Toastmasters is less formal than some clubs, and doesn't require every member to speak at every meeting. However, the more you volunteer to speak, the more you hone your speaking skills. We have no dress code. Again, visitors are welcome, and members are encouraged to bring guests.
